B & G Milkyway....at least 4 different locations.
Sandra
Oooh! Where?? Is there one on 69th somewhere? I seem to remember passing something like that . . .
Sandra, you caught me craving sugar again!! ; )
69th and Louise. It's a brand new one. I think they just opened last year.
B&G also has a locations just south of 41st & Marion, next to McDonald's on 12th & Kiwanis and there's a new one opening in Tea. Does the east side have one, too?

Yes...just south of 10th St on Sycamore. This one is in perfect placement for after softball games at Frank Olson all summer, so my kids beg for it nearly every day!:) My husband absolutely adores their strawberry twist ice cream cones, so if he is along, it is usually a yes.:)
Must be a guy thing...my husband always gets that when we go!

Weird, my husband it a strawberry ice cream man, too. We'll have to check it out. MMMMM . . . . ice cream and SUMMER!!
One of my favorite treats is a B&G strawberry cone dipped in crunch and dipped in chocolate. I have to get the first bite before the chocolate coating hardens.
They also have real malts with the malted milk powder. Troy loves their Oreo malts.
We used to live pretty close to the one on 12th St. During the summer they have long lines to the street and they actually have to hand out numbers right before closing so they know who was in line before closing time. I like the one on 12th St. best, there's no indoor waiting area, plus that's the oldest one in town, so it's another childhood memory thing.
Zomer motors on 12th St was first a Dairy Queen with walk up window service.

Girl, you are like a history book on this town. It's funny that you mention all this stuff, because one of the upper level ESL/Citizenship classes that runs in the building I teach in was watching a video on the history of Sioux Falls recently. I stopped in to ask their teacher a question one day & I got a ten minute history lesson on Sioux Falls. Most of it went something like this: "There was this big, beautiful building. Then someone knocked it down and built a . . . (bank, clinic, business, what have you . . .)" Seriously, this went on for ten minutes, by which time, I WAS DEPRESSED because it seemed like all the cool buildings were already bulldozed!
Although, in your hubby's line of work, I suppose this isn't such a bad thing . . .
The B & G Milkyway in Tea is open now.
I just heard that from one of my co-workers who lives in Tea! I can't wait until it stops raining long enough (and maybe warms up a bit) so I can walk to the park and have some ice cream!
Yeah, no kidding! Someday it might actually be spring. The bad thing is that my walks to the park and around the pond are probably now going to end up at B&G, which means I'm never going to come out ahead with burning calories. I have no willpower when it comes to ice cream, especially B&G's ice cream, and of course they had to locate just two blocks from my house. Way too convenient.
The sign on the Milky Way on Sycamore says "Our ice cream has always been lo-cal". That has to count for something, right?

There is one on the corner of Madison and Burnside for ice cream, not sure what else they have cause we just moved here... i live like 2 blocks from it!! we are SO excited for it to open since we live so close!!! Walk up shops are cute and i hope there will always be a couple around!!
There is also one on West 41st street right by Lewis!
I think that one is called Dairy Dream on Madison and Burnside. My mom and dad met there when she used to work there back in highschool. lol That place has been there forever!
Get up and Play! Soccermom
AAWWWW that is cute!!!
Oh yes, there is a Sonic going up on the east side of town on 10th st beside KFC...there is also one on Louise beside the one guy, hunting store...the name escapes me right now...anyway, they have people in roller skates that will come and bring you your order! I love their limeaides...and from 2-4pm everyday they are half price!

Hey ladies! Let's not forget about my mom's place! It's at N 60th St and Cliff Ave...They don't have malt's, but def make up for them with the smoothies! And the home-made goodies! Connie's Coffee and More. And she has tables outside. TRY IT OUT! :D
*Allie-cat*
WHOA!!! They deliver your food on roller skates!!! This I have to see . . .
I know the place you're talking about-the Portland Malt Shoppe! (pronounced "shoppie" by all the clever college kids :-P) They were the BEST but they were constantly packed! Mmm, now I want ice cream...
I know! The lines were always madness, especially during tourist season, so we always liked to go when they first opened up in the spring (before tourists) and right before they closed in the fall (after most of the tourists were gone). Miss that place . . .
And Betty's Pies . . .
And Sara's Table . . .
And the rotating restaurant at the Radison . . .
Mmmmm. Now I'm hungry.
And the beach on Park Point . . .
And watching the ships come in . . .
And Lester Park . . .
And the North Shore Scenic Highway . .
And Seven Bridges Road . . .
And Enger Tower . . .
Okay, gotta stop now, this trip down amnesia lane is making me a little sad!
Oh geez, me too! Did you know you can go to duluthshippingnews.com and they have a webcam by the lift bridge? Sometimes you can even watch a ship come in!
Ooooh! I'll have to try that! My son would love it. On our FIRST morning in Sioux Falls last July, he woke up and said "Mom! It's summer out! Let's go to the lake and throw rocks and watch the ships . . . "
It was a little hard to explain to him that there were no ships to watch!! Made me sad . . .
So what about the milky way places? are they any good?
Joy is not the absence of suffering, but the presence of God
I love their ice cream....better than DQ.
Never tried their food food, though.

Okay, so the warm temperatures today (finally!!) had me thinking back to fun things we did with the kids in Duluth. There was a great little outdoor malt shop right along the lakewalk that had, at one time, been a funky, vintage oil station. They made the world's best malts, so on nice summer days we would take the kids strolling on the lakewalk and stop for a malt.
Any places like this in or around Sioux Falls?? I'm a total sucker for the little walk-up window, ice cream and burger joints in the summer. Any hints??
(And, yeah, I know ice cream isn't low carb!)
