Anniversary

I am extremely disappointed and wanted to know what others think about the situation.

My husband and I are celebrating our 19th wedding anniversary. He announced that we should get a new mattress for our present. I was a little hurt/disappointed. What do you think? Am I wrong in feeling a little hurt by the whole idea?

After 19 years of marriage, I know my husband and I would need a new mattress. ;) But if that's not the route he is thinking, talk to him. Tell him that what you were thinking. Maybe he is just trying to be practical, not realizing that it would hurt your feelings?? And seriously, congrats on 19 years! That's awesome!!

You could take this as a positive and go one step further...Get the mattress and a new set of nice 400 count silky sheets and candles for the room. Maybe a few new throw pillows and make the room really romantic. Get it arranged for the kids to have a sleepover at the grandparents or friends house for the night and you and your husband can have a romantic night sharing a bath/shower and "break in" your new mattress!!!

I did this for our first Valentine's day together, I got rose petals for the bed and a tray of yogurt and fresh fruit and whipped cream!!! Wow...we had a great night!

My husband is not huge on "romantic" gifts...when we were talking about getting engaged, he just "happened" to show me an interesting magazine on "CZ" rings! I said in a straight, serious tone, "If you are thinking of a CZ ring for me, you are very, very wrong." Each year, for my birthday, I get my own cake and take the kids out to Burger King. This year he did get me some flowers and a card. So I never ever leave important dates to his imagination. I already told him for our ten year anniversary I want to go on a cruise and I want a ring to match my wedding band. I know he cares, he is just clueless about stuff like that. I love the suggestion about getting 400 count sheets and rose petals. Make it the gift to remember and then take HIM out for a nice supper. Congratulations!!

Congrats on 19 years! Hopefully he didn't mean to hurt your feelings-men can just be clueless sometimes. I have a good friend whose husband got her socks for Christmas. Socks! And he's the nicest guy in the world, he just doesn't have a romantic bone in his body. I think that's the year she also got a heated mattress pad. :-P Needless to say, I took him out shopping for her birthday. :-)

I guess maybe that is the problem! For 19 years I have just "put up" with the excuses of lame gifts! Do you suppose he will ever "get it"? He is a really nice guy but doesn't have a flippin' clue. I was really hoping by 19 years that he would "get it!"

Maybe he's waiting until your 20th to really do something special. But as we're always told, men don't understand women-speak so you have to be direct. I've been told by some VERY WISE women (you know the ones who've been there, done that?!?) that you can't wait for them to "get it" or figure it out. Tell him what you were hoping for and that (if you can) you can get a mattress anytime but for your anniversary you would like______________. I'm sure he'll be happy to make you happy. :) Congrats on 19 years, that's wonderful!

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe you should tell him that your okay with the matress this year, but that you expect something romantic next year.
